This was a fun project to work on – creating the 3D model based on initial sketches by the client, which they then sent off to the manufacture for physical production to sell.
The client provided approximate dimensions to base the design off. I built the majority of the body from curves, which I then extruded cylinders along to create the form. To allow it to be packaged into smaller boxes, and therefore save money on delivery costs, we modified the design so that the head could easily be removed with an allen key. The tail section had a divider to create an area to hold the egg timer.
The client was kind enough to give me my own once they had been produced by the manufacturer, and it now has pride of place in my kitchen!
The client came back to me later to create a fun promotional animation to be used on social media. The idea was to have it scratch the ground and peck at pieces of corn like a real chicken. Animating was a tricky process due to the rigid and restrictive nature of the design. Below is a looping gif of the animation:
